As part of the overall Nathan Phillips Square Revitalization, key elements on the Square – such as the existing Playground – were relocated, rebuilt, or redesigned. The revitalized playground – used by both the City Hall Daycare and the public – carefully weaves new play equipment, play surfacing, and plenty of run-around space around the magnificent existing trees, to ensure the ongoing health of the trees. New plantings to the north and south provide better security screening for the playground, and a new fence-cum-bench (separating ages in the daycare groups) provides a place for younger and older kids to play together across the divide.
